Barry has devoted over 40 years in the funeral profession and has gained experience in management, training, aftercare, advanced planning, consulting, and has coordinated community events and participated in civic and church groups.
A lifelong resident of Anniston, Barry attended Anniston City Schools and graduated from Jefferson State College in Birmingham with an associate's degree in mortuary science.
His funeral career began in 1971 in Birmingham with Rideout's Roebuck Chapel until 1973. He worked with Gray Brown-Service Mortuary in Anniston for 22 years where he served as manager. He was instrumental in establishing Chapel Hill Funeral Home in 1981, and opened Brown & Kughn Memory Chapel in 1999. In August 2005, he sold his interest in Brown & Kughn and began a new career with New Beacon Hospice in Anniston, where he served as Hospice Care Coordinator until 2010 when he joined Valhalla Funeral Home.
For two years, he wrote an editorial column in Funeral Digest, a national funeral publication. He has completed two books about his funeral director experiences that will be published in the near future.
Barry resides in Hoover and is a member of the Palisade's Church of Christ in Homewood, was active in the Kiwanis Club of Anniston, and formerly sang with a professional a Capella ensemble.
